Local Artist to Record 52 Songs in 52 Weeks

Jared Mahone will release one song every week in 2010

Jared Mahone, recording artist based in Columbus, announces his newest creative endeavor to write and record 52 songs in 52 weeks. He is calling this creative experiment The Mixtape Project, and he dedicated his Web site to hosting the journal-style catalog of songs.

Every Sunday in 2010, Mahone will post his latest demo-style recording, along with an intimate look at the meaning of the song, and sometimes even a video of the writing and recording process. “I really want people to experience this creative journey with me,” Mahone said. “I want them to see what goes on behind the scenes, in addition to enjoying the final cut of the song.”
Subscribers to the Mixtape Project have year-long access to all of the songs and other media, and also have the ability to rate each song and leave personal comments on the interactive site. They also can download all the recordings and choose their favorite songs to create their own “mix tape.”

Mahone encourages feedback from his fans during the project, and he plans to create a listener-influenced album based on responses from The Mixtape Project. “People will have the ability to shape our next album based on their favorite songs that I create throughout the year,” Mahone said.

For more information on The Mixtape Project, visit www.jaredmahone.com. The annual subscription fee is $20, and it includes the entire collection of recordings regardless of when the subscription begins during the year.

To promote The Mixtape Project, local production company, J.A.M. Sessions, is hosting the Local Live Mixtape Show at Skully’s Music Diner on Jan. 29. The night will feature Jared Mahone, with special guests The Wet Darlings and Andy Shaw Band.

Every person in attendance will receive a free download card as a sampler that includes the first releases from The Mixtape Project. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and music starts at 10 p.m. The cover charge is $6 for ages 21 and over, and $9 for ages 18 to 20.

Skully’s Music Diner is located at 1151 North High Street. For more information on the Local Live Mixtape Show at Skully’s Music Diner, visit www.jaredmahone.com .
